British Wireless for the Blind Fund would not be able to continue to help people with sight loss if it wasn’t for the fantastic support of our army of volunteers.
Our charity is lucky to be helped by 45 people who commit their time to us for free and make a real difference to those who use our services.
They volunteer across the organisation, from hand-delivering equipment to clients and holding fundraising events to working behind the scenes to help keep the charity running.
As well as the amazing support it gives BWBF, there are many other reasons why people choose to volunteer.
It could be a route to employment, a chance to try something new or a way to give something back to the community.
It is also a way to:
- Gain new skills, knowledge and experience
- Develop your existing skills, knowledge and experience
- Meet new people and make new friends
- Enhance your CV
- Improve your employment prospects
- Help benefit people with sight loss
- Get to know the local community
We are always looking for volunteers, and even if you can’t give up much time you may still be able to help us.
You could sign up as a communications volunteer, which involves visiting groups and clubs in your local area to tell them about BWBF’s work. This is also a great way to support us if you are already a member of an organisation – tell them about us too!
Whatever your reasons are for wanting to volunteer, we would be glad to have you on board.
Chairman of trustees, Daniel Smith, said: “Like many charities, British Wireless can only continue providing vital support thanks to the amazing help we are given by our volunteers.
“People who give up their time so selflessly make a huge difference to the service we can provide to blind and partially sighted people.
“From going out into the community and hand delivering our equipment to supporting our staff at head office, they really are the cogs that keep us turning.
“We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to join us. It doesn’t matter how much or little time you can spare – there will always be plenty you can do to help.
“We cannot thank these wonderful people enough for the support they give us.”
