Send Xmas Greetings

Our brand new range of Christmas cards is ready to order – but please don’t leave it too long!

Our 2008 Christmas cards were such an amazing success that we completely sold out and unfortunately had to disappoint many people who ordered. We’re really sorry about letting our supporters down (it’s a rare occurrence, we’d like to think!) but we’ll be doing all we can to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Our new Christmas cards are available to buy online - you can see the whole range here. We think it’s our best selection yet, with something for everyone. All we ask is that if you’d like to order, please don’t leave it until December! We’d hate to disappoint again.

Get your order in as soon as possible and be ready in good time for the festive season.

Roger retires...

Roger Bower, a member of the BWBF Technical Committee is retiring after many years of service.

The role of the Committee is to inspect sets produced by manufacturers from across the world that are willing to work with the Fund. Eighty per cent of the committee have some form of visual impairment.

Their role in inspecting sets and making recommendations to the trustees as to which ones will be suitable for blind and partially sighted people is vital. Roger has contributed a great deal over the years and his interest and awareness of new technical innovations have been a great benefit to the Fund and he will be much missed.

We wish him well in his well-deserved retirement.

Visit by Local MP
We were delighted to be able to offer our local MP some traditional BWBF hospitality when the Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe, Member of Parliament for Maidstone & the Weald popped in for tea on Friday 6 February.

Miss Widdecombe had been unable to attend our official opening last May because of her parliamentary duties but she didn’t want to miss an opportunity to learn about the work we do.

She was given a guided tour of our new office, met all the staff and gained a real insight into how the Fund helps those in need. During her tour Miss Widdecombe also viewed our unique collection of radio sets – both vintage and modern. She was particularly taken with an original crystal set and tried on the headphones for a photo call (pictured left) with the local newspaper, the Kent Messenger. The set is probably one of the first the Fund provided.

Margaret, our Chief Executive said, “It was a pleasure to meet Miss Widdecombe and we hope she enjoyed learning about the work we do. Having moved to Maidstone last year we need to recruit more local volunteers to work with us so we hope coverage of Miss Widdecombe’s visit will raise our profile and encourage more people to apply.”

Following Miss Widdecombe’s visit we received a lovely letter from her in which she says how much she enjoyed her visit and pledges her support.

She also adds, “ I must finally thank you for the most wonderful afternoon tea, which helped fill a hole! If only everyone provided such wonderful refreshments during visits!!”

We really appreciate her finding the time to pop in – she had just come from a local school visit and after leaving us she was being driven to Canterbury to take part in “Any Questions”.

She certainly has a hectic schedule!
