A Note About Gift Aid
If you Gift Aid any donation you make to us you may be concerned about the lowering of the rate of income tax reducing the amount we are able to claim back. In a move that surprised many of us, the Chancellor announced transitional relief for charities. So BWBF will continue to receive Gift Aid at the rate of 28p on every pound you give. Assuming you have given us permission to claim back Gift Aid, BWBF will now claim Gift Aid tax relief of 25 pence on every pound you give. The transitional relief being operated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) means that for Gift Aid donations made from 6 April 2008 until 5 April 2011 there will be a Government supplement of three pence on every pound on top. The claim plus the supplement brings us back to the 28 pence we were able to claim before.

Xmas Cards
Our 2008 Xmas Card Collection

We all like to send cards to our family and friends to show that we are thinking of them at Christmas time.

So why not make your Christmas message doubly thoughtful this year? Our latest collection of Christmas cards for 2008 is now on sale. As well as a greetings message, all the cards bear the BWBF logo to tell everyone that not only are you thinking of them, you’re supporting our work too.

Traditionally, our cards are big sellers – so if you’d like to order some, please use the special leaflet with this issue of TalkAbout or place your order online here.

BWBF supporters take on the 10K London Run

Over 23,000 club and fun runners pounded the streets of London on Sunday 1st July 2007 in the increasingly popular 10 kilometre ASICS London Run.

This year, five runners took part in the event on behalf of the Fund. We raised a grand total of £1,086.49 and very much hope we can exceed this total this year.

Amongst the runners were RSGB President Angus Annan and Finance Director Marilyn Slade. Joining them was Steve Hermitage and our two runners from last year Garth Hendrikse and Tyronne Quarrie who beat their time of 1:05 by 2 minutes.

We’re hoping others will follow their example and join in this year when the run will take place on Sunday, 6th July 2008. If you’d like to join in – or know someone else who might – please contact Lesley West at the Fund - Lesley@blind.org.uk
