Therefore we moved from London to Chatham and gained more space and some extra staff. But the challenge still kept growing as we increased our service to include UK-registered partially sighted people and played an ever larger part in the design and development of the audio equipment we provided: always embracing the very latest available audio technology to benefit our listeners.
Still the demand grew – and some months ago we knew we had to take some major steps in order to meet it. Especially as we also had some very innovative plans for the expansion and development of our service around the UK which would call for more staff and more efficient premises.

Twenty years ago you might have had to really search to find the offices of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund! A few dedicated staff tucked away in a tiny office high up on the top floor of a central London building…very hard to find – yet very hard at work!

Even way back then the Fund could anticipate the growing challenge we would be facing in the future. The number of people needing our service was increasing steadily;and more and more sets were needed to meet the demand.Also we were aware that the audio technology that had remained relatively unchanged for a couple of decades was set to advance in leaps and bounds,although few at that time could have predicted the enormous developments that we now take for granted – compact disc,digital audio broadcasting and the opportunities offered by the internet for example.
